One of the key objectives I laid out before the big Michigan football official visit weekend, was making progress in holding onto the commitments of defensive linemen Nate Marshall and Bobby Kanka.

Both players are four-star recruits in the 2025 class according to the 247 Sports composite rankings, and each has visited another program this summer.

Kanka, who is 6-foot-4, 285 pounds out of Howell, Michigan, is ranked as the No. 4 in-state prospect in Michigan for the 2025 class as well as No. 383 overall. He was the first commitment in the 2025 class but visited Michigan State recently and talked about a “positive vibe.”

However, after his official visit to Michigan this weekend, Kanka said that he is “solid” and won’t be taking any other visits.

“I’m solid,” Kanka told Brice Marich of The Michigan Insider. “This weekend I wanted to see how the staff really was in person and they checked all my boxes. No, I do not plan on visiting other schools.”

Michigan football also solidified things with Nate Marshall

Nate Marshall is ranked even higher than Kanka. In fact, he’s Michigan football’s highest-rated commitment in the 2025 class at No. 41 overall. The 6-foot-4, 265-pounder visited Auburn earlier this month and said it was “close” between the Wolverines and Tigers.

That was worrisome. But the Fenwick, Illinois recruit visited the Wolverines this past weekend and came out of it saying, “I’m a Michigan man,” according to Marich. Marshall is close with Jaylen Williams, another blue-chip D-line commitment in 2025 and that seems to have helped.

Beyond that, Marshall said the plan presented for how to use him in the Michigan defense was “intriguing.” Either way, Michigan’s top commitment in 2025 seems solid.
