The Michigan Wolverines led the Big Ten in players drafted in the 2023 NFL Draft, with 9 players selected, despite returning over 80% of last year’s production. Next year, the Wolverines could have even more players drafted, including Michigan football rising junior quarterback JJ McCarthy, who was a former five-star prospect according to the 247 Sports Composite. This week, the Wolverines’ rising star QB was named as one of the top 10 QB prospects for the 2024 NFL Draft.
Michigan football quarterback JJ McCarthy named a top 10 quarterback prospect for the 2024 NFL Draft
This fall, nothing less than another Big Ten title and a College Football Playoff appearance will do for the Michigan Wolverines. This is the most talented team that Jim Harbaugh has ever assembled, and as we saw last year, when the Wolverines get hot, there are few teams in the nation that can stop Michigan football on either side of the ball. That being said, Michigan will be looking to avoid another CFP meltdown and finally take the next step in its pursuit of the program’s first national title since 1997.
JJ McCarthy, the rising junior quarterback for Michigan football, led the Wolverines to a 12-0 regular season and Big Ten title win last year. He will be returning for a third year in the Maize and Blue this fall and must be a core piece of the puzzle for the Wolverines if they are to beat Ohio State, win the Big Ten, and make the playoff for the third season in a row. McCarthy is garnering tons of national hype ahead of the new season and is also becoming a major point of interest for NFL teams ahead of next year’s draft.
According to Pro Football Focus, JJ McCarthy is one of the top 10 quarterback prospects in the coming draft class, ranking at No. 8 overall.
PFF’s take on JJ McCarthy
Here is what Pro Football Focus said about Michigan football junior quarterback JJ McCarthy, and their reasoning for including him in their top 10:
“McCarthy seized the starting job from Cade McNamara in the second game of the season and didn’t look back, quarterbacking Michigan to its second straight Big Ten title and playoff berth. He thrives outside of the original play design. McCarthy’s five passing touchdowns outside of structure were tied with Maye and trailed only Williams and Bryce Young among Power Five quarterbacks. He needs to improve his consistency, as he had four games with sub-60 grades in 2022.”
