Yesterday, we met with Michigan football linebacker Ernest Hausmann — one of the Wolverines’ top new transfers this year. There, the sophomore defender broke down a few aspects of weekly preparation and more as his squad gets ready to host the UNLV Rebels for a mid-afternoon Week 2 matchup this Saturday.
Michigan football linebacker explains UNLV Rebels’ offense
Ernest Hausmann — as well as the rest of this year’s Michigan football team — knows not to take any opponents lightly. As many college football fans saw, even national powerhouses like Clemson, who got gunned down by Duke on Monday (28-7), can fall flat on their face against a weak opponent. This weekend, with some lingering injuries and Jim Harbaugh still suspended, the Wolverines need to remain focused on the task at hand.
Yesterday, Hausmann took a minute to talk about the UNLV Rebels and what he sees from them so far — this weekend, Michigan football is going up against a “unique” offense, he says.
“UNLV has a very unique offense, and that can cause a lot of problems,” Ernest Hausmann said on Tuesday evening. “They have a lot of fast, twitchy guys. …This week, we’re not taking this team lightly. We know we have a tough opponent ahead of us with just what they’re able to do with their offense. We’re locked in this game.”
It’s worth noting that defensive back Keon Sabb, who also met with the media yesterday, pointed out that UNLV’s quarterback has a great arm, which has been a point of emphasis for the Wolverines during practice.
More from transfer addition Ernest Hausmann heading into Week 2 of the season
Ernest Hausmann, being a new addition to the Wolverines, has had a lot to learn over the past few months since committing. That said, the new Michigan football linebacker says that he has been picking up fast, meaning he should be ready to go this weekend, just as we saw against East Carolina.
Still, the playbook is a hard thing to learn — mainly because it is constantly changing to meet new needs as the season progresses and different opponents come to town.
“That’s the thing about a playbook though — you never fully understand it,” Hausmann explained. “That’s the thing I love about a playbook, though. Each week there are so many things that you change about it. So you might know the playbook on a Saturday, and on Monday, it changes. And that’s why the whole game week prep, there’s nothing like it in any other sport. You go through a whole spring, fall camp, fall camp rules – but the playbook, there’s a lot of variables that go into it so you never truly understand the whole playbook.”
Michigan football and the UNLV Rebels will meet on Saturday at 3:30 PM (EST) in Ann Arbor for their Week 2 contest. If all goes according to plan, the Wolverines will be heading into their Week 3 matchup against Bowling Green with an unblemished record.
