After an offseason full of parades, awards, and fans talking trash on social media, Michigan Football officially reports to fall camp today. Team 145 will take the field in Schembechler Hall, boasting a $14 million renovation and a brand-new locker room.

Offense heading into Michigan football camp
The reigning National Champions face numerous questions after having thirteen NFL draft picks in Detroit last April, leading the entire nation. Only one starter returns on the offensive side of the ball: tight end Colston Loveland. It will be a tall task for new Offensive Coordinator Kirk Campbell to replicate the Wolverines’ 2023 success. Campbell’s top priority will be replacing J.J. McCarthy, who had arguably one of the greatest seasons in Michigan Football history last season. Expect the quarterback battle between Alex Orji, Davis Warren, and Jack Tuttle to go deep into camp and possibly into the start of the season.
Michigan defense has tremendous upside
On the defensive side, Michigan returns a majority of its starters, including three projected first-round draft picks in Will Johnson, Mason Graham, and Kenneth Grant. The question mark on defense, however, lies within the coaching staff. Jesse Minter followed Harbaugh to the Chargers, leaving an opening at the Defensive Coordinator spot. Michigan hired Wink Martindale, deemed the originator of the defense that Michigan has been running for the past three years. Martindale brought in a collection of new coaches, so there will be plenty of fresh faces on the field this fall.
Coach Sherrone Moore has championship expectations
Sherrone Moore enters his first season as Head Coach after Jim Harbaugh departed for the NFL shortly after the National Championship game. Despite being a first-year Head Coach, Moore has experience, having taken over for Harbaugh during Jim’s suspensions during the Stalions saga at the end of the 2023 regular season.

Moore aims to maintain the momentum after the National Championship run. The Wolverines have much to figure out during fall camp and must do so quickly, as the schedule is much more challenging than last season. A preseason Top-5 team, the Texas Longhorns, will come to Ann Arbor in week 2. Texas made the College Football Playoff last season, losing in the semifinal to Washington.
There is no doubt there will be many eyes on Michigan Football this year, with many hoping to see failure. Sherrone Moore and the Michigan football team will have a target on their backs, and they like it that way. The road to repeat starts now.
