Michigan football has been pushing for a couple of flips in the 2025 class, but they have expanded their board and offered two more players committed to SEC programs this week.

The Wolverines have been trying to flip Miami pledge Elijah Melendez. Yet, South Carolina commitment Shamari Earls is also “seriously considering” U-M after a push from Michigan football.

What’s interesting is that Earls isn’t the only pledge of the Gamecocks the Wolverines are hoping to flip as they offered three-star safety Damarcus Leach on Wednesday. Leach is a three-star safety ranked No. 653 overall in the 2025 class according to the 247 Sports composite rankings.

Out of Abbeville, South Carolina, Leach has been committed to the Gamecocks since April. He’s got visits scheduled to Duke and South Carolina. It makes you wonder if he would be open to a visit to Ann Arbor.

It’s hard to take a flip attempt seriously until the recruit gets to campus, usually multiple times. So regardless of how excited Leach sounded about the offer, a visit or a couple of visits (one official) will show that things are serious. The three-star DB is a name to watch though.

Michigan football targets another SEC commitment

The Wolverines have also entered the mix with four-star safety Carson Lawrence. The 6-foot-2, 194-pounder out of Chattanooga, is committed to Vanderbilt. But, other programs have been pushing to flip him and the Wolverines joined the mix on Thursday.

Ranked No. 328 overall according to the 247 Sports composite rankings for the 2025 class, Lawrence has visits on the schedule to West Virginia, Miami, and Vanderbilt. This is another recruitment where getting involved makes sense.

If Lawrence is still taking visits to other programs, Michigan football should make a push for one. Lawrence has been committed to Vanderbilt for over a year so a flip might not be easy, but it’s worth a shot.
