Michigan football fans wondering when the next commitment will come in the 2025 recruiting class got a hint on Tuesday as the Wolverines received a new expert projection in the 2025 class from EJ Holland of The Wolverine.

Holland, a long-time Michigan football recruiting expert, is projecting that the Wolverines will add 2025 defender Maxwell Roy to their 2025 class. Roy is 6-foot-3, 270 pounds, and ranked 219th overall according to the 247 Sports composite rankings out of Philadelphia.

Roy’s recruitment has been pretty quiet. Yet, Michigan football is expected to get a visit later this month. Penn State and Ohio State have offered. Rutgers is also in the mix. But the Wolverines appear to be the team to beat according to Holland and this would be a solid addition to the 2025 class.

Michigan football needs momentum in 2025

Michigan has just five players committed right now in the 2025 class. The good news is that all five pledges are blue-chips (4 stars or better) but the Wolverines need to have a big month. They at least need to set the table for a big July because while there is a long time before signing day, there’s not that much time.

You have to get work done in the summer months, which Michigan football has traditionally done. The first official visit weekend went well. Douglas Utu is taking a mid-week visit to Nebraska, so that’s something to keep an eye on. U-M also impressed five-star wideout Derek Meadows and top-100 safety Kainoa Winston.

Four-star defensive lineman Jaylen Williams is also going to take an official visit to Michigan this month, canceling a trip to Miami, so there are some positive things on the recruiting trail. But closing with another four-star defensive lineman like Roy would be huge.

Holland was joined in his prediction by Zach Libby also of The Wolverine. There haven’t been any crystal ball projections.  The On3 prediction machine gives Michigan football a 94-percent chance to win the commitment of Roy.
