The 2024 season is not at the forefront for Michigan football right now, seeing as the Wolverines are all-in on preparation for the Rose Bowl game against No. 4 Alabama. Still, Jim Harbaugh and his coaching staff have to keep a close eye on the transfer portal and appear to be locked in on a Big Ten target out of Maryland: linebacker Jaishawn Barham. Right now, things are apparently going quite well for the Maize and Blue.
Michigan football trending for Big Ten transfer portal target out of Maryland
Jaishawn Barham is currently a sophomore linebacker for Maryland, who finished the 2023 season 7-5, including a seven-point home loss against Michigan football a few weeks ago. While Barham has not been recording super impressive statistics, making 37 tackles, three sacks, and one interception in ten games for Maryland this fall, he is still among the top linebacker targets available in the transfer portal right now.
Per the 247 Sports transfer portal rankings, Jaishawn Barham is the No. 78 overall prospect and the No. 4 linebacker in the portal right now. His talent has been flashed on the field, there is no doubt about it, but his potential still appears to be largely untapped. His massive frame (6-foot-4, 233 pounds) could be used in a number of roles in the Michigan football defensive system, and for the time being, it appears that the Wolverines are in fantastic shape here.
Wolverines earn a crystal ball for Jaishawn Barham
Per college football insider Steve Lorenz (The Michigan Insider), Michigan football is the team to beat for this Big Ten transfer portal target right now. This morning, Lorenz placed a crystal ball in favor of Michigan to land the Maryland linebacker, who ranked as the No. 119 player in the nation in the class of 2022. It’s also worth noting that the ex-Terrapin linebacker is reportedly in Ann Arbor today (Monday) for a visit with the Wolverines.
Last offseason, Jim Harbaugh hit the transfer portal pretty hard while assembling his impressive 2023 squad, which currently is 13-0 with a Big Ten title and is ranked No. 1 nationally heading into the College Football Playoff. This fall, it appears that the Wolverines will be doing more of the same, and all seems to be going well when it comes to the recruitment of Jaishawn Barham out of Maryland
