Yesterday, Michigan football quarterback JJ McCarthy was taken out of the Wolverines’ win over the Michigan State Spartans in the middle of the third quarter. With the win over MSU, that makes it eight-straight games that McCarthy is yet to finish — he has not taken a single snap in the fourth quarter yet this fall. Today, the 2023 Heisman Trophy odds were updated, and none other than the Wolverines’ elite junior QB is the new clear-cut favorite to win college football’s most prestigious award.

According to Vegas Insider, Michigan football quarterback JJ McCarthy is your new clear Heisman Trophy favorite heading into Week 9. Now, for the Wolverines, this weekend is about to be very boring, considering that the team finally has its bye week.

Still, against Michigan State, JJ McCarthy was taken out of the game before the fourth quarter for the eighth game in a row due to the Wolverines blowing out the Spartans in East Lansing.

While he did not even see the end of the third quarter, the Michigan football star still completed 78% of his passes (21/27) for nearly 290 yards and four touchdowns with no picks. On the season, JJ McCarthy is up to 1,799 passing yards, 18 touchdowns, three picks, and has a QBR of 93.7, which is the best rating of any quarterback in America.

Because of this, JJ McCarthy is now the frontrunner in the 2023 Heisman Trophy odds, per MGM, PointsBet, DraftKings, and more. Michigan football has four more games for JJ McCarthy to establish himself as the favorite for the remainder of the season — Purdue, Penn State, Maryland, and Ohio State are all that is left between the Wolverines and another Big Ten title game berth.
