Following the commitment of elite defensive line prospect Jerod Smith, it’s only natural for eyes to turn to his twin brother. For those who may not know, four-star Jerod Smith just so happens to have a twin brother who is very good at football. Jacob Smith is also an elite defensive player, listed as an edge rusher. With Jerod having already committed, things look good for Michigan football recruiting with his brother Jacob.

Michigan football recruiting: Jacob Smith looks more like a Wolverine with every passing day

Watching brothers play together is always fun. Not only do you get to see them grow together, but it immediately brings a family feel to any team. This is precisely what the Wolverines hope to gain with this 2024 class. The class already seems to get along well, as they constantly interact on Twitter and other social media. Adding a pair of twin brothers to the class would only add to this dynamic.

On April 25, the Wolverines gained the commitment of two more players: tight end Brady Prieskorn and defensive lineman Jerod Smith. While both were elite pick-ups for Michigan football recruiting, the latter also has an elite edge rusher for a twin brother. With Jerod being a part of the class, focus has turned to his sibling, edge rusher Jacob Smith.

Since the commitment of Jerod, several experts have taken to their platforms, predicting Jacob to Michigan football. The recruiting site On3 is especially confident in this, as the Wolverines have become the overwhelming favorites to gain Jacob’s commitment. The site now gives Michigan football an 89.5 percent chance at landing the four-star edge rusher.

As the confidence level grows, it feels like a matter of time before the twins are both committed to playing football in Ann Arbor. Still, it’s important to remember that it’s only May, and lots can happen in the cycle. Still, Michigan football is heading in the right direction for this recruitment.

How close is Jacob Smith to committing?

While Michigan football recruiting fans are likely hoping to hear of a commitment sooner rather than later, we still have some time until we hear of his official college decision. While sites like On3 have Michigan as the favorite to land his commitment, 247 Sports still has Kentucky as the favorite.

Last we heard from Jacob Smith; he was announcing his top-six schools on April 22. Along with the Wolverines, the list included Notre Dame, Kentucky, Nebraska, Georgia and Alabama.

Ultimately, we could be waiting a very long time until we hear his official decision. If he wanted, he could hold out until National Signing Day in February 2024. Still, until then, Michigan football appears to be in an excellent position to gain his commitment sooner rather than later.
