A season ago, quarterbacks coach Matt Weiss and offensive line coach Sherrone Moore shared the position of offensive coordinator, with Weiss leading the way. That said, Weiss has since been let go, lofting Moore into the position full-time. According to Michigan football standout offensive lineman Zak Zinter, Moore is already showing signs of promise and is stepping into his new full-time role with ease thus far, yet the Wolverines’ have enough leadership to operate independently on many occasions.
Michigan football standout Zak Zinter gives an update on the offense during fall camp
More offensive balance in 2023 — that is the goal for the run-heavy Michigan football offense heading into their new campaign. Over the past two seasons, the Wolverines have rushed their way to a pair of Big Ten titles and College Football Playoff appearances; yet after two straight playoff losses, it’s clear that the Maize and Blue need to be able to air it out more.
According to Michigan football standout Zak Zinter, who is perhaps the best offensive lineman in the nation right now, Sherrone Moore has been embracing his new full-time role and is doing well with his approach thus far, yet the veteran presence in the locker room allows Michigan’s offense to be self-sufficient on most occasions.
“Coach (Sherrone Moore) has been calling the plays, doing his thing, and then when we come off we just meet as a group,” Zak Zinter told the media earlier this week. “If we need to talk about it, we’ll grab him and bring him over. But we’ve got older guys in the room and we kind, on our own, come off to the side with the backs, JJ (McCarthy), and talk signals, pressure, etc. We kind of talk amongst ourselves in practice.”
During his first season as the Wolverines’ full-time play caller, Sherrone Moore has been tasked with leading the most talented Michigan football offense that fans have seen throughout the Jim Harbaugh era. With a veteran quarterback, numerous rising breakout candidates at wideout, the best tight end and running back duos in the nation, and the country’s best offensive line, it appears that the Maize and Blue are poised for a massive season this fall.
