The addition of NIL (Name, Image, and Likeness) has turned college football on its side, from recruiting to the transfer portal and beyond. That said, on Thursday, Michigan football star Blake Corum had a chance to comment on NIL and its role in his decision to return to Ann Arbor. According to the Wolverines’ star running back, NIL money is great, but his return was about so much more.

Michigan football star Blake Corum comments on NIL and more

After a stellar junior season, which was unfortunately cut short due to injury in Week 12 against Illinois, Blake Corum announced that his time with Michigan football was not quite done. Following the Wolverines’ 2022 season, Corum decided to return for one final shot at winning it all with the Maize and Blue. However, according to this star running back, NIL money was a non-factor in his decision to come back to college.

“NIL, it’s great. But for me, it wasn’t coming back because of NIL. It’s kind of like, ‘OK, that’s a bonus. That’s great.’ But that wasn’t anything for me,” Michigan football star Blake Corum said, per On3. “It was honestly the bigger picture. I came back, got my degree. We have one heck of a team coming back … To do the goals we’re setting out to do and bring something real nice home to Ann Arbor.”

There are high expectations for Michigan football and Blake Corum this fall. After winning the Big Ten title twice in a row, yet falling short in the College Football Playoff in back-to-back years, the Wolverines are poised to finally break through the glass ceiling and make a run at the national championship in 2023.
