University of Michigan football star JJ McCarthy, a junior quarterback for the Wolverines, just led his team to a pair of the best seasons in program history. Now, with a 27-1 record as a starter, three Big Ten titles, three CFP berths, and a National Championship, experts are predicting that McCarthy will break a decades-long NFL Draft trend by being picked in the first round of this year’s draft by the Seattle Seahawks.

Michigan football star JJ McCarthy projected to Seattle Seahawks in NFL Draft

The last Michigan football quarterback to be taken in the first round of the NFL Draft was none other than the Wolverines’ current head coach: Jim Harbaugh. Harbaugh, who was taken with the 26th pick in the draft by the Chicago Bears back in 1987, is eying an NFL return in the same cycle as his three-year veteran quarterback: JJ McCarthy.

According to CBS Sports’ latest mock drafts, JJ McCarthy is poised to break this Michigan trend and is projected to be picked No. 16 overall by the Seattle Seahawks in the upcoming 2024 NFL Draft (Josh Edwards). McCarthy never had flashy passing stats due to the Wolverines’ run-heavy offensive scheme; however, it has always been clear that he possesses the talent to succeed in the league — just check the tape.

The Seattle Seahawks need a new quarterback heading into next season (and a new coach, for that matter), and it appears that Michigan football legend JJ McCarthy could fit the build.
