Nothing that Will Johnson has done in his two-year Michigan football career has surprised me. From the day he put on the uniform, he has looked and played like Charles Woodson.

Woodson, the only mostly defensive player to win the Heisman Trophy, is a Michigan football legend. Johnson is too. He was spectacular last season when he was able to play and notched interceptions against Ohio State and Washington in the national championship game.

Johnson beat Marvin Harrison Jr. to the ball and made a crucial interception which set up the first touchdown of ‘The Game’ for the Wolverines. Johnson also intercepted a pass early in the third quarter of the national championship game which helped Michigan football take a two-score lead.

In recent mock drafts, Johnson has gone as high as No. 3 overall. He is also the highest-rated player in EA Sports College Football 25, although he says he’s still aiming to be a 99 (he’s a 96 right now).

Will Johnson wasn’t even healthy in 2023

What’s really impressive is that the Michigan football superstar missed three games last season. He had four interceptions total and has seven already for his career. Johnson also had a defensive touchdown against Minnesota and what should really scare other teams is that Johnson wasn’t even 100 percent last season — not even close.

“My body wasn’t ready for the season,” he said via The Michigan Insider. “I got right for a little bit, but I didn’t put all that work in through the off season so I could sustain it throughout the season.

“I would say I was probably going 70, 75 [percent] last year.”I mean, I wasn’t really able to run. If you really know my game, you’ll be able to tell that’s why I played the way I did last year, because I didn’t really trust myself running and things like that, just because I wasn’t really able to.”

Just imagine how good Johnson will be if he’s anywhere near 100 percent this season. Considering how good he was last season, it’s an exciting thought for Michigan football fans.
