Michigan football is exactly three weeks away from kicking off the 2023 college football season against East Carolina on September 2nd. For star running back Donovan Edwards, who played through injury last year yet still stood out for the Wolverines, it appears that a massive junior season is coming as he takes on many roles as a rusher, blocker, and receiver.

Michigan football star Donovan Edwards is feeling better than ever

Last year, despite injury (which forced offseason surgery), Donovan Edwards stood out during his second season with Michigan football. All said and done, Edwards rushed for 991 yards (as RB2) for seven touchdowns and more — he also proved to be an incredible pass-catcher, making many crucial plays alongside quarterback JJ McCarthy throughout the year.

Heading into the 2023 college football season, Edwards is coming off of surgery, yet says that he is feeling better than ever. On top of that, offensive line star Trevor Keegan claims that Edwards is bigger, faster, and stronger than ever before, once again putting this junior ball carrier in the spotlight ahead of his third year in Ann Arbor.

“Oh, last year — it would be one little play, one little mess up,” Donovan Edwards said when asked about the impact that injuries made on his sophomore season. “I always mention Hawaii, how I landed the wrong way coming down when I caught the ball on the two-yard line, and that took me out for the game and like two more games. So now that I had surgery this offseason, I feel stronger and more confident in myself. I don’t have many issues with it anymore, so I’m feeling stronger, faster, confident, and better than ever, honestly.”

On top of Edwards’ improvements, senior Blake Corum also had offseason surgery and is reportedly back to his usual self. If these two elite Michigan football stars can remain healthy this fall, they could break program records and lead the Maize and Blue back to the Big Ten title game and College Football Playoff.
