Jim Harbaugh is assembling a terrifying recruiting class in Ann Arbor right now, and over the weekend, the Wolverines took one step closer to landing a top wideout. On Saturday, Micah Gilbert — a 2024 four-star wide receiver and top-5 player in North Carolina — included the Michigan football team in his final seven school choices.

Michigan trending for four-star 2024 wide receiver

According to the 247 Sports composite rankings, Micah Gilbert is a four-star 2024 wide receiver out of Charlotte Christian High School in Charlotte, NC. Both the 247 rankings and the composite rankings are high on Gilbert and have him listed among the top-5 players in the state of North Carolina. According to every recruiting outlet except for ESPN, Gilbert is a four-star recruit and one of the better pass-catchers in the class.

The 247 rankings list Gilbert as the No. 199 player in the country, the No. 30 wide receiver in his class, and the No. 5 player in his state.

Wolverines must address the need at wideout

After landing another massive commitment last week, the 2024 Michigan football recruiting class ranks as the 2nd-best class in the nation and the No. 1 class in the Big Ten. Michigan has 11 hard commits thus far, including seven four-stars and one five-star, giving the Wolverines one of the best classes that Jim Harbaugh assembled to this point.

That being said, Michigan football has a crucial flaw in its current class: the Wolverines are yet to land a wide receiver. While Michigan has quarterbacks, running backs, offensive line, and more on lockdown, Michigan needs to start landing wideouts to remain competitive. Micah Gilbert is a perfect opportunity for the Wolverines to land some top-ranked talent for its new elite quarterback — Jadyn Davis — to throw to.
