After an already exciting start to the 2024 class for the Michigan Wolverines, you might be asking yourself: what more could they possibly ask for? Look no further than the great state of Connecticut, home to elite twin brother edge rushers Jerod and Jacob Smith. While it isn’t guaranteed, Michigan has been trending for both of them recently. It sure would be plenty of fun if we got the pleasure of seeing them donning the maize and blue soon.
Elite twin brother edge rushers heavily considering Michigan
Yesterday was a big day for Michigan football. The Wolverines received plenty of good news on Friday, particularly within the Smith family. In a matter of hours, Michigan had received four crystal balls predicting Jerod Smith to Michigan. Then, to add to the good news, Jacob Smith released his top six schools, Michigan football being one of them.
Jerod Smith, a 6-foot-3, 265-pound prospect, is listed as the No. 270 player in the country and the No. 30 defensive line prospect, according to 247 Sports. He projects as more of an inside lineman but could easily move outside as an edge rusher.
His twin brother, Jacob Smith, is listed as a 6-foot-3, 230-pound prospect. With this kind of frame, Jacob emphasizes finessing his way through the offensive line, likely pushing him to the outside. He is the No. 208 player in the country, the No. 18 edge rusher and the No. 3 player out of Connecticut.
With the two of them considering Michigan, it’s hard not to be excited about the potential. Family connections help lead players to specific schools, and this could be yet another example of that.
Michigan football’s competition
As things stand, the biggest competitor in this race is Kentucky, which is being heavily considered by both prospects. While Michigan is the current favorite to land Jerod Smith, Kentucky is the favorite to land Jacob.
Aside from Kentucky, both players are considering Alabama, Georgia and Notre Dame. These are heavily sought-after prospects. If Michigan football can pull off the commitment of these elite twin brothers, it would be huge in showing that the Wolverines are capable of competing against the best recruiters and best schools in the country.
