Tomorrow, at Michigan Stadium, Michigan football vs. East Carolina will kick off at noon, officially starting the Wolverines’ 2023 schedule. From the transfer portal to a number of new freshman stars, here are four new faces that could shine for the Wolverines on Saturday.

Michigan football vs. East Carolina —  4 new faces that could shine for the Wolverines

1. Ernest Hausmann

Mike Barrett and Junior Colson are our two projected starters at linebacker right now; however, Ernest Hausmann is very much in the mix as well. Hausmann, a former Nebraska Cornhusker and one of the top transfer portal additions in the nation could come on strong tomorrow, making an immediate and impressive impact for the Wolverines during their season opener.

2. Drake Nugent

The Michigan football position battle at center will drag on throughout the season opener this weekend; however, we expect Drake Nugent to eventually get the starting nod. For the Maize and Blue, Nugent could make a big splash, stepping up and replacing former center Olu Oluwatimi as Michigan chases a third-straight Joe Moore Award and more this fall.

3. Fredrick Moore/Semaj Morgan/Karmello English

Maybe this is cheating, but these three freshman wide receivers — Fredrick Moore, Semaj Morgan, and Karmello English — have been stepping up in a big way throughout fall camp. Tomorrow, with a few wide receiver injuries and a heavier passing attack, expect at least one of these three to turn some heads.

4. James Turner

No one is talking about this enough, but Michigan football just lost one of the greatest kickers in college football history. Tomorrow, Saline High School product James Turner, a transfer portal kicker, will be stepping up into his new role as the starter for the Maize and Blue, and to say he has some big shoes to fill would be a drastic understatement. With some injuries and new coach movement, expect Turner to get a chance to prove himself as K1 for the Wolverines.
