The Wolverines and Fighting Irish both boast top 10 2024 recruiting classes right now, though as of late, one of the top EDGE targets in the class has started trending in a new direction. Earlier this week, 2024 Michigan football recruiting stole the lead for Jerod Smith, a four-star EDGE recruit who was projected to commit to the Notre Dame Fighting Irish not too long ago.

Today has been a massive day for the 2024 Michigan football recruiting efforts with four-star EDGE Jerod Smith. Smith is a 6-foot-3, 265-pound EDGE in the 2024 recruiting class and is rated as a 247 Sports Composite four-star recruit; he is ranked as the No. 270 recruit in the nation, the No. 30 EDGE in the class and the No. 4 recruit in the state of Connecticut. Smith has a long list of offers, though the most notable teams in his recruitment thus far have been Michigan football, Kentucky, and Notre Dame.

On Friday, Michigan football received four crystal balls to land the four-star EDGE recruit, Jerod Smith, shortly after receiving a few insider predictions on On3 as well. Now, seemingly out of nowhere, the Wolverines have the most crystal balls to land the four-star EDGE and lead the race according to the On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine, which previously favored Notre Dame.

Michigan’s recruiting class currently ranks No. 3 in the 247 Composite rankings, only behind Ohio State and Georgia. Landing a top-ranked recruit like Smith could shoot Michigan back into the top-2 and get the Wolverines one step closer to the coveted No. 1 spot.
