Jim Harbaugh, the head coach of the Michigan Wolverines football program, is heading into his 9th season with the Maize and Blue. So far in his career, Harbaugh has compiled an impressive 74-25 record during his 99 games as Michigan’s head football coach. Over the past two seasons, he has won consecutive Big Ten titles and appeared in the College Football Playoff two years in a row. Ahead of the 2023 season, CBS Sports ranked the long-time Wolverine coach among the top 5 in the nation.

According to the 2023 CBS Sports head coach rankings, Jim Harbaugh is one of the best in the land, ranking as the No. 5 head coach in the sport. A few years ago, no one was as high on Harbaugh, whose best season with the Maize and Blue until 2021 was a 10-3 overall finish. Two seasons ago, everything changed for Michigan football. The Wolverines went 12-2 and won the Big Ten, making the College Football Playoff for the first time in program history.

Last fall, Jim Harbaugh and the Michigan Wolverines football program did more of the same, going 13-1 and winning the Big Ten once again, yet falling short in the CFP for the second year in a row. The Maize and Blue are expected to contend for another conference title and perhaps even the national championship this year, which could further bolster Jim Harbaugh’s standing among the top head coaches in college football.

The four head coaches ranked ahead of Jim Harbaugh are Nick Saban (Alabama), Kirby Smart (Georgia), Dabo Swinney (Clemson), and Lincoln Riley (USC).
