When it comes to the 2023 college football season, there is a lot of outside noise in Ann Arbor right now. Yet, after speaking with players and seeing the general vibe in Schembechler Hall, it is clear that nothing, not even Jim Harbaugh being suspended, has shaken the Maize and Blue thus far. Yesterday, Max Bredeson spoke with the media, where he outlined a major role that Michigan Wolverines football star running back Blake Corum has been playing in keeping the team focused and ready to go.
Michigan Wolverines football is rolling with the punches when it comes to Jim Harbaugh’s suspension
Yesterday, major news rocked the Michigan Wolverines football program — Jim Harbaugh will be suspended for three games (the entire non-conference slate) of the 2023 college football season. He will return during Week 4, which is the Wolverines’ Big Ten opener against Rutgers.
Following this news, the media spoke with tight end Max Bredeson, a junior, who went in-depth on how his team is rallying together behind senior running back Blake Corum and others.
“Not much to really talk about. This is a pretty focused team, so everything that happened there, we kind of just kept to ourselves. Like I said, focused team, driven, so we’ll be fine … I mean, you always get surprised by random news, but this is a very focused team. We just saw it as ‘We have practice later, and we’re going to keep pushing and doing the same thing we’ve been doing.“
Running back Blake Corum continues to stand out as a leader
One of the top leaders on this year’s roster is Michigan football star Blake Corum, Bredeson said.
“I’d say there’s a lot of really good leaders on this team, and we kind of follow behind their type of leadership,” Max Bredeson explained. “What really stood out to me was Blake (Corum) – pretty quiet leader, but when he does something, you really follow it. If he says something, you go with what he says.
“Mikey (Mike Sainristil), is always ready to say something that needs to be said. Just leaders that know what we have to achieve and keep you grounded on getting better every day rather than looking ahead.
“It can just be a little — offense is down — and he’s like, ‘Come on guys,’ and you just follow what he says. He told a story about his dog — he has these huge dogs, and he talked about one of them was named Savage, and how you’ve got to be like this big dog.
“He told a really good story about it, but when he talks, you listen. Anything he says.”
Behind the veteran leadership of Michigan Wolverines football stars like Blake Corum and others, this year’s squad will manage just fine throughout the Jim Harbaugh suspension and whatever else the season may bring.
