The Michigan Wolverines shut out Oklahoma State 4-0 on Thursday afternoon, securing their spot in the NCAA tournament final four for the first time in program history. The third-ranked Wolverines have been on a war path throughout the tournament, head coach Ronni Bernstein determined to take her squad to the very end.

The Wolverines took two of the three doubles matches to secure the doubles point. Michigan lost court one but took court two, with Piper Charney and Emily Sartz-Lunde winning court three to close out the doubles round. They then won four of the first sets in the singles round, with Julia Fliegner and Jessica Bernales both winning their second sets, and Lily Jones coming back to win her second and third sets to put the match away.

Michigan Will Face #2 Texas A&M in the Semifinals

Texas A&M is liable to be Michigan’s biggest obstacle yet, not only as a higher-ranked team, but also given their proximity to the Hurd Tennis Center, where the two teams will face off. That said, the Wolverines have truly been on a tear in the tournament thus far; their only close matchup was in the third round against #14 Texas, where the Wolverines eked out a 4-3 win. All other matchups through the quarterfinals have been decisive, 4-0 victories for Michigan, and that certainly comes as a result of their hard work, dedication, and motivation to take home the hardware.

In her 18 seasons as Michigan’s head coach, Ronni Bernstein has made it to four quarterfinals in the NCAA tournament, including this one, and has not been able to get over that hump into the semis until this year. On the heels of a shut out, and already making history for the Women’s Tennis program at Michigan, the Wolverines have all the momentum they could hope for going into the semifinal matchup against the Aggies.

Michigan and Texas A&M face off on Saturday afternoon (May 17) at 2PM EST, and long time fans of the program are undoubtedly fired up for what is sure to be an electrifying matchup, to say the least.
