Recently, it was reported that Michigan football will be without head coach Jim Harbaugh for the team’s season opener this Saturday. The university made the call via a self-imposed three-game suspension. Yesterday evening, more suspension news broke regarding the Wolverines’ coaching staff, as offensive play-caller Sherrone Moore will also be serving a suspension.
Michigan football suspends Sherrone Moore
Second-year defensive play-caller Jesse Minter will be the Wolverines’ interim head coach for the program’s season opener against East Carolina this weekend. While many anticipated that it would be Sherrone Moore for all three games, Jim Harbaugh decided otherwise, appointing four interim coaches for the three games he will miss.
In hindsight, this move makes a lot of sense for Michigan football, considering that Moore will now reportedly be serving a one-game suspension for the Wolverines’ opener against ECU, as reported by Josh Henschke of Rivals.
Sherrone Moore is heading into his first year as Michigan’s full-time offensive play-caller. He split the role with ex-offensive coordinator Matt Weiss, who was fired amidst an investigation earlier this year. Moore is slated to make his return in Week 2 against UNLV.
While Moore’s absence from the sideline this weekend is not ideal for the Wolverines, Michigan football should undoubtedly be able to handle its business in Week 1 against the Pirates and finish its non-conference slate unscathed.
For the time being, Jim Harbaugh and Sherrone Moore are the only two coaches slated to serve a suspension.
