During the 2023 off-season, the Wolverines hired Kirk Campbell as the new Michigan football QB coach. So far, all reports indicate that this new coach has been well-received within the program and on the recruiting trail. Following Michigan’s spring game on April 1st, quarterback Davis Warren, who will be competing for the backup role behind JJ McCarthy this summer, highlighted a significant point of emphasis that Campbell has been implementing ahead of the 2023 season.
New Michigan football QB coach emphasizing timing and rythem ahead of the new season
Kirk Campbell is one of the newest coaches in Ann Arbor, yet he has already made a profound impact on the Michigan football offense. According to Michigan quarterback Davis Warren, Campbell has been emphasizing a few key aspects for the Wolverines’ QB room this year.
“I think just like, playing on time, playing in rhythm, tying your feet to your eyes and being super clear with your eye discipline,” Davis Warren said of new Michigan football QB coach Kirk Campbell and his plans for the offense. “Because you can’t look at all 11 guys at once, you know, that’s just the truth, you can’t see everyone at once. And really got us super disciplined with our eyes and where we’re at, and that has just made it easier on me to play quarterback. I think I definitely had one today that I’d like to have back, but overall it made me feel better about how I was doing out there today.”
After relying heavily on the running game for the past two seasons, this year’s Michigan football offense is expected to undergo some changes. Despite securing two consecutive Big Ten titles and more, the team is still aiming for a national championship, a goal they hope to achieve this season. With highly touted quarterback JJ McCarthy entering his junior year, the offense is poised for significant growth, potentially propelling the program to new heights.
In the inaugural year of the Kirk Campbell era, JJ McCarthy and the Michigan football team are prioritizing timing and rhythm in their pursuit of a national title, a feat they haven’t accomplished since 1997.
