New Michigan football RB coach ‘expected’ before spring ball

According to a report from Sam Webb of The Michigan Insider, Michigan football should have a new running backs coach soon.

It’s been a wild offseason for Michigan football. Since winning the national championship, the Wolverines have gotten a new head coach, plus experienced a ton of staff turnover.

That was expected when Jim Harbaugh left. Jesse Minter, Jay Harbaugh, Mike Elston, Ben Herbert, Steve Clinkscale, and now Mike Hart, have left for the NFL or otherwise.

The loss of Hart from the Michigan football staff wasn’t a shock. There were reports last week that Hart was on “personal leave” from the program. I had hoped that he would return, but multiple outlets confirmed on Friday that he won’t be back with Michigan football.

When Mike Hart’s replacement could be hired

Sam Webb of The Michigan Insider had some interesting reporting on Friday soon after the departure of Hart. Webb reported that Michigan football head coach Sherrone Moore has some candidates in mind. It sounds like he wasn’t caught off guard by the decision by Hart.

Yet, it sounds like Moore got a head start according to Webb. That could be critical because with spring ball starting on March 18th, the Wolverines need to have their assistant coaches in place if at all possible.

Denard Robinson is one name that’s been suggested. I think it makes sense but it does come with risks. I’d love Demarco Murray but I don’t think that’s plausible. Yet, the news that Moore has some candidates in mind and will act quickly as reported by Webb, as in a hire “expected” before spring ball, it makes me feel better about the situation.

Now, let’s see who Moore gets.
