Chris Ewald Jr., a four-star cornerback in the 2025 recruiting class, was the No. 1 Michigan football commit for Jim Harbaugh and his Wolverines. On Saturday, shortly after Michigan won the national title, Ewald visited with the Georgia Bulldogs and has since decommitted from the Maize and Blue.

No. 1 Michigan football commit in the 2025 recruiting class decommits

With Jim Harbaugh interviewing elsewhere and potential NCAA punishment coming for Michigan football, Chris Ewald Jr. decided that the Wolverines were not his future home after all. Ewald had been committed to Michigan since December of 2022, and even though Michigan just won a national title and finished 15-0, the program is not as savvy with NIL and other resources as programs like Georgia and others.

Per the On3 Industry Rankings, Chris Ewald is a four-star cornerback in the 2025 recruiting class, ranking as the No. 73 player nationally, the No. 9 cornerback in the 2025 class, and the No. 10 player in the state of Florida.

Ewald was previously Michigan’s No. 1 commit in the cycle, though the class is young, and the Wolverines will have plenty of time to make up for the loss of his commitment. Per the Recruiting Prediction Machine, it appears that Miami, Auburn, and others are all top contenders for Ewald’s newly re-opened recruitment.
