No. 20 Michigan WBB dominates Akron ahead of Christmas break

No. 20 Michigan women’s basketball (10-2, 1-0 Big Ten) took a 72-62 loss to No. 10 Oklahoma Tuesday. It got back in the win column on Friday with a 96-55 beatdown of Akron. It marked the Wolverines’ first true road game of the season.

Michigan WBB takes down Akron

In a game in which guard Syla Swords played just eight minutes due to an injury, Michigan was led by senior Greta Kampschroeder. Kampschroeder had a career-high 23 points and five three pointers to go with four rebounds, three assists and one steal. All five of her threes were hit in the first half, which helped Michigan to a 51-29 lead after two quarters.

Freshman Wolverines guard Olivia Olson had 11 points and a game-high of six assists. She also added three points and two steals. Junior forward Alyssa Crockett came off the bench and gave Michigan a game-high 10 rebounds in 20 minutes. She added two points, four assists and a block as well.

Michigan made the Zips turn the ball over 29 times and turn in a field goal percentage under 40 percent. The Wolverines are ranked 25th in the nation in opponent field goal percentage (35) and 48th in turnovers forced per game (21). 

The maize and blue have nine days off from game action following Friday’s game. On Dec. 29 Michigan is set to travel to the west coast for a matchup with No. 7 USC.
