One of the biggest questions facing Michigan football going into the 2024 season is who will play quarterback? Wolverines offensive coordinator Kirk Campbell met with the media ahead of spring practice which starts on Monday and he addressed the QB competition head-on.

Campbell said that Michigan football will evaluate the quarterbacks on the roster, before looking to the transfer portal. I’ve said before that while adding a QB from the portal sounds nice, it’s not going to be that easy, and much of it depends on the right player entering.

There is a reason quarterbacks are available in the transfer portal. There’s no guarantee it will be an upgrade and that’s a smart move by Campbell who said he believes there is a quarterback on the roster who can lead the Wolverines into the 2024 season.

Michigan football QB pecking order in spring ball

Campbell said that the pecking order in terms of the competition would be determined by seniority. So graduate quarterback Jack Tuttle would get the first reps, followed by Davis Warren, Jayden Denegal, Alex Orji, and true freshman Jadyn Davis.

The new Michigan football offensive coordinator also talked about adjusting the offense to fit the personnel. That’s what every coach should do, but sometimes, they try to make a round peg fit into a square hole. Campbell won’t and with Orji, who has a chance to be a dangerous dual-threat quarterback, it’s the smart thing to do.
