This week officially marks the start of Big Ten conference play for the Maize and Blue. This Saturday, No. 2 Michigan football (3-0) hosts the Rutgers Scarlet Knights (3-0) at the Big House in Ann Arbor. Rutgers is coming off a massive win over Virginia Tech, so there is a lot of confidence on both sides heading into this weekend’s game. Before the game, Greg Schiano had a chance to break down what he sees from the Wolverines — according to him, there may not be a better team in the nation right now.

What does Greg Schiano say about Michigan football?

Greg Schiano has Rutgers playing good football right now; however, they’ve undoubtedly got their work cut out for them this weekend. Michigan football — the defending back-to-back Big Ten Champions — is looking to start conference play with a bang after underwhelming against Bowling Green last weekend. Additionally, 9th-year head coach Jim Harbaugh is back from suspension, and there are a number of injuries that could be healed up by the time the game kicks off on Saturday.

“Great challenge, (Michigan football is the) No. 2 team in the country,” Schiano said earlier this week. “Probably could be easily ranked No. 1; they are that good. There are absolutely no weaknesses in this team. When you look at what they have, their offensive line, two-time reigning Joe Moore Offensive Line of the Year, an experienced quarterback (JJ McCarthy) who can both run and throw accurately, deep and do all the things — he’s a future first-rounder at quarterback. They have two running backs that are as good as anybody’s in the country. A slew of receivers, tight ends.

“Flip it over to defense — their defensive line is maybe the best in the country,” Greg Schiano continued. “Big, physical, deep. Linebackers run and hit. Secondary covers well. Kicking game, they have specialists that are arguably the best in the nation.

“So, definitely a tall order, but we need to make sure we take care of us. That’s what we need to do, and that’s what we’ll do in preparation, and then a great opportunity to go out to Ann Arbor and go play. So looking forward to it.”

Wolverines gearing up for undefeated matchup against the Rutgers Scarlet Knights this weekend

Michigan football has an 85% chance of victory against the Rutgers Scarlet Knights this weekend, per the ESPN Football Power Index. Additionally, the Wolverines are favored by 25 points in this week’s initial spread, which is impressive considering Michigan has yet to cover a spread so far this year.
