Last night, Michigan football recruiting lost a major member of the 2025 recruiting class: four-star linebacker commit Mantrez Walker out of Georgia. Because of this, the Wolverines’ once-top-10 class has dropped in the composite rankings, and is now down to No. 11. Here is a rankings update for Jim Harbaugh’s classes.
Michigan football recruiting loses top 10 status in the 2025 recruiting class
This morning, the 247 Sports composite rankings updated for the 2025 recruiting class, pinning Michigan football outside of the top 10 nationally. Previously, the Wolverines’ three-commit class ranked near the top 5, though it is now ranked 11th nationally and 2nd in the Big Ten conference (the Penn State Nittany Lions rank 6th right now).
Now, before there are any overreactions, the 2025 recruiting class is too young for anyone to panic about this. Recruiting classes will flow up and down, and de-commitments are bound to happen. That said, losing a four-star linebacker like Mantrez Walker is not great news for Jim Harbaugh and the Wolverines on the recruiting trail.
Who is left? Where does the 2024 class rank?
Right now, the 2025 Michigan football recruiting class has two remaining commits: Chris Ewald (defensive back, Florida) and Bobby Kanka (defensive lineman, Michigan). Per 247 Sports, both are three-star recruits for the time being; but again, the class is incredibly young.
While we’re here, it’s worth pointing out that the 2024 Michigan football recruiting class — which is pretty much wrapped up at this point — ranks 9th nationally in the composite rankings, and 2nd in the Big Ten conference (Ohio State is No. 2).
