On Tuesday, it was reported that four-star Michigan football commit Bobby Kanka, one of the newest defensive line commits in Jim Harbaugh’s impressive 2025 recruiting class, has been suspended for a pair of games. These reports surfaced alongside a few other MHSAA suspensions across the state.

Four-star Michigan football commit Bobby Kanka suspended

On Tuesday, the Detroit Free Press reported that four-star Michigan football commits Bobby Kanka has been suspended for two games by the MHSAA due to “residency issues.” These issues stem from Bobby Kanka’s decision to transfer from Pinckney to Howell, though the MHSAA noticed a lack of residency change, resulting in his suspension.

Kanka is a 6-foot-5, 260-pound strongside defensive end/defensive lineman out of Howell, MI. Some rankings vary on Kanka, though this is mostly likely because he is a member of the 2025 recruiting class, which is yet to be evaluated by every recruiting service.

According to the Rivals rankings, Bobby Kanka is a four-star defensive lineman in the 2025 recruiting class, ranking 6th in the state and 17th among defensive linemen in his class. He is also one of the most recent players to commit to Michigan football, as he announced his official decision on August 1st. He is Jim Harbaugh’s third commitment in the class of 2025 (junior) — a class that currently ranks 7th nationally, per the composite rankings.

Kanka picked Michigan football over programs like Penn State, Michigan State, Tennessee, and more.
