Michigan football made a splash in recruiting last cycle by flipping and signing No. 1 recruit quarterback Bryce Underwood. As the highest rated recruit in the history of the program, Underwood has Wolverine fans excited, but a recruit in the class of 2026 seems intrigued too.
On Tuesday, On3’s Ethan McDowell reported ($) four-star WR Messiah Hampton wants an official visit to Michigan. The 6-0, 170 pounder is ranked as the best player in New York and No. 48 WR in the country, per On3’s Industry Rankings. He received his offer from the Wolverines after an impressive performance at a camp in Ann Arbor last summer.
Four-star WR Messiah Hampton wants to visit Michigan
As the winningest program in the history of college football, Michigan’s reputation alone can attract recruits. Now that the offense will feature a potential star at quarterback, wide outs like Hampton are chomping at the bit to get a chance to play with Underwood.
“No. 1 quarterback in the country, who wouldn’t want to play with him?” Hampton told On3.
Hampton plays at James Monroe High in Rochester, New York. The Wolverines are in the race for him alongside Penn State, Ohio State, Pittsburgh and more.
“My recruitment with Michigan, it’s been great so far,” Hampton said.
According to McDowell, Hampton referred to his bond with wide receivers coach Ron Bellamy as a work in progress. Bellamy visited him in Rochester, which improved things, and it will be an important relationship as Hampton discussed what would make a school stick out.
“I would say a receivers coach,” Hampton said. “What receivers coach do I believe could develop me and my skill set to be as sharp as it could be, so I could be the best player I could be?”
