Michigan football head coach Sherrone Moore said he was going to be aggressive on the recruiting trail and so far, he’s been true to his word. Yet, he hasn’t just been aggressive on the trail, he’s been aggressive with his modernization of Michigan football recruiting.

Michigan football recruiting getting a modern feel

The first key move made by Sherrone was bringing back Sean Magee. He worked under Harbaugh previously and played a huge role in the hire of Ben Herbert. Magee is the general manager for Michigan football and according to Sam Webb of The Michigan Insider, he will also oversee scouting and player acquisition in the transfer portal.

Essentially, Michigan is going to operate like an NFL team. There will be a college scouting department and a pro scouting department. The Wolverines will have Magee dedicated to the portal, while Albert Karschnia who has been promoted to director of player personnel, will be in charge of high school evaluations. Sam Popper is now the director of recruiting, also according to Webb’s report.

Magee is also assisting with NIL which needs a shot in the arm to compete with college football’s elite. It remains to be seen if Moore will get the support from the administration that Jim Harbaugh didn’t, but so far, the new head coach is on the right path.

In addition to expanding the recruiting operation, Moore hired a bunch of dawgs on the recruiting trail, outside of new defensive coordinator Wink Martindale. So I’d expect Michigan football recruiting to take off and there has already been some positive momentum. Now, the Wolverines need commitments.

Those should start to come this spring, but rest assured, Michigan football recruiting is in great hands with Sherrone Moore.
