Eamonn Dennis, a member of the 2019 recruiting class, and a key special teams player for Michigan football over the past few seasons has entered the transfer portal according to his post on Instagram.

Dennis, who will have to wait until the spring transfer portal window opens next month, redshirted during the 2020 Michigan football season after signing with the Wolverines as a three-star athlete out of the state of Massachusetts.

Dennis is 5-foot-10, 188 pounds, and played offense and defense during his time with Michigan football. The wide receiver played in 12 games during the 2022 season, as well as 14 during the past season as a senior.

Since he didn’t play at all during the COVID season, he should have two years of eligibility left. I’d keep an eye on Don Brown over at UMass. He played a key role in landing recruits like Dennis out of high school and it’s not like Dennis isn’t a D-1 caliber player.

Thoughts on the Michigan football transfer departure

You don’t want to lose players to the transfer portal, but it seemed clear that Dennis was going to struggle to play beyond special teams. It just hasn’t been in the cards. So it’s better for both sides for the player to find a spot where he can play, while saving Michigan football a scholarship.

The timing seems strange. But if Dennis realized he wasn’t going to get the shot he wanted at wide receiver, maybe that pushed him to move on. Regardless, we wish him the best wherever he ends up.
