The Wolverines are heading into a new era — the Sherrone Moore era — which means there is some work to be done when it comes to the 2024 Michigan football coaching staff. Friday, Moore appeared on ESPN and gave a timeline as to when Michigan fans can expect the program to have hired (or promoted) new coordinators.

Michigan football coaching hires have a timeline

Jesse Minter left for the NFL with Jim Harbaugh and Sherrone Moore is likely no longer the Wolverines’ offensive coordinator due to his head coaching promotion. That said, it sounds like Michigan football will fill both the offensive and defensive play-calling roles sooner rather than later, especially with spring ball fast approaching.

“We haven’t replaced the defensive coordinator yet,” Sherrone Moore said. “We’ve got a few names and people in the in the boat to do that, and we’ve got a great staff. We have people here on the staff that we’re trying we’re to keep; we’re going to try and retain. So the staff is starting to shape out, bit by bit, every day. And I think by next week or so, we’ll have that in place.”

Sherrone Moore looking to assemble another elite staff

Much of Jim Harbaugh’s success with Michigan football over his final three seasons in Ann Arbor was due to some grade-A coaching hires. Names like Mike Macdonald, Jesse Minter, Sherrone Moore, and others made an immediate impact for the Maize and Blue, spearheading three-straight Big Ten titles, CFP berths, wins over Ohio State, a Rose Bowl victory, and a National Championship, not to mention Michigan’s 40-3 overall record over that timespan.

Now, it appears that Sherrone Moore is looking to surround himself with more elite assistants as he and his Wolverines chase a second straight National Championship later this year.
