After changing his number from No. 14 to No. 1 ahead of the 2023 season, ex-Michigan football star Roman Wilson had a career-defining season, leading the Wolverines to a 15-0 finish, a Big Ten title, a Rose Bowl victory, and a National Championship. Now, with the 2024 NFL Draft approaching, Wilson is turning a lot of heads, including scouts at NFL.com.

Ex-Michigan football star trending upward before NFL Draft

So far, no one has stood out quite like Roman Wilson in preparation for the NFL Draft — he has been flashing talent, speed, and his impressive hands in events like the Senior Bowl. Now, scouts at NFL.com and beyond are taking note of the Michigan football legend, even ranking him as one of the Senior Bowl’s top performers thus far.

“Wilson is going to be a problem for defenses if he finds the right fit in the draft. While his touchdown production popped in 2023 (12), he never reached 800 yards receiving in a season during his college career due to the run-heavy nature of Michigan’s offense,” says NFL.com. “However, he showed off his ability to run away from coverage and make contested catches with strong hands throughout practice on Tuesday. Wilson’s talent for creating mismatches and opening throwing windows for his quarterback reminds me of what I saw from Tank Dell at the Senior Bowl last year, and we know Dell thrived once he was paired with C.J. Stroud in Houston.”

Roman Wilson a future star in the league?

During his final year in the Maize and Blue, Roman Wilson was JJ McCarthy‘s favorite target and made some incredible plays when Michigan football needed him most. Perhaps no Michigan play was more impressive last fall than Wilson’s ‘around-the-back’ catch against a Nebraska defender during the Wolverines’ 45-7 victory over the Huksers.

At the moment, Roman Wilson is not projected very high in the coming NFL Draft; however, more standout performances at Senior Bowl-type events could shoot him upward before the picks start rolling in come April.
