Today, during the Wolverines’ impressive win over the 10th-ranked Penn State Nittany Lions, ex-Ohio State coach Urban Meyer had a chance to evaluate the Michigan football coaching staff, which was without Jim Harbaugh due to a Big Ten suspension, which was issued yesterday evening. Meyer, perhaps shockingly, praised Sherrone Moore and the coaches.

The Michigan football coaching staff was down a few faces today — most notably, the Wolverines were without Jim Harbaugh due to the Big Ten taking very late and unprecedented action on Friday while Michigan’s plane was in the air. Still, Sherrone Moore stepped up in a huge way, leading the Maize and Blue to an impressive 24-15 victory over Penn State at Beaver Stadium.

For the Wolverines, the win is the team’s most impressive win at Beaver Stadium in quite some time, perhaps even since Lloyd Carr and Charles Woodson crushed Penn State 34-8 back in 1997. In fact, the coaching staff did such a good job that even ex-Ohio State coach Urban Meyer took note during FOX’s halftime show.

“Of course, they miss (head coach Jim Harbaugh),” Urban Meyer said on FOX Big Noon Kickoff during halftime. “But the coordinators are taking over the game. As you watch this game unfold, again, the head coach’s job is a game manager. The real game management is fourth down, maybe some trick plays. They’re doing a great job. They don’t really miss (Jim Harbaugh) right now.”

Sherrone Moore has Michigan football in great hands

After the game, Sherrone Moore delivered an emotional message to the players, coaches, fans, alumni, U-M leadership, and more. With the Wolverines going through a lot right now and without the head coach against a top-10 team on the road, Moore stepped up in a massive way and deserves tons of credit for today’s victory over Penn State.
