Michigan football continued to build momentum in the 2025 recruiting class on Saturday with the addition of four-star EDGE Julius Holly.

Holly announced a commitment date earlier this week and the Wolverines beat out a slew of SEC teams for the commitment from the Alpharetta, Georgia recruit. He’s 6-foot-3, 230 pounds, and ranked No. 301 overall in the 2025 class according to the 247 Sports composite rankings.

Texas A&M, Georgia, and Ole Miss were the top contenders. According to EJ Holland of The Wolverine, Georgia was back and forth, but it seems like Holly was a take.

Michigan football D-line coach Lou Esposito put on the full-court press and it paid off on Saturday. That’s 13 commitments total in the 2025 class with 10 of them as blue-chip recruits. Here are some thoughts on another commitment for Michigan football which is the fifth since last weekend.

Another quality EDGE commitment

Michigan might not recruit as well as some other teams overall, but one thing the Wolverines do really well is recruit quarterbacks, D-line, and offensive linemen really well.

It goes beyond that to running back and the secondary, but EDGE and defensive line have been two of Michigan’s strongest positions for years.

Holly isn’t like Enow Etta in the sense that he’s not 6-foot-6. He’s also not Jaylen Williams, but Holly had eight sacks and three pass breakups. He’s disruptive and Holland compared him to Jaylen Harrell.

An impressive run by Esposito

Mike Elston was an incredible recruiter. It’s too early to say that Esposito is on that level but his first couple of months have been impressive.

Esposito came into the situation late and after Greg Scruggs was fired. It wasn’t an advantageous position to be but he’s still landed a trio of blue-chip prospects already in this class. He also held the commitment of Bobby Kanka, who said he was solid this past week.

I keep saying it because it’s true.

Michigan football is trending up in 2025

You always hear people say we aren’t finished and I’m sure Michigan football recruiting folks will be saying that this weekend because it’s true. Hardy Watts has a decision coming up. So does Andrew Olesh if he keeps his commitment date.

The Wolverines came into the month of June with five commitments. Now they have 13 total. Michigan usually does a lot of work in June and that hasn’t changed under Sherrone Moore.
