Yesterday afternoon, Michigan offensive analyst Kirk Campbell was promoted to full-time quarterbacks coach. What does he bring to the table for the Wolverines?
Campbell has a great history in the Big Ten
From 2017-2019 (three seasons), Kirk Campbell served as an offensive analyst on James Franklin’s staff at Penn State — he worked with many positions, most notably quarterbacks. During this stretch, Campbell helped the Nittany Lions put together one of the best offenses we have seen in State College in quite some time.
Additionally, Campbell coached two of Penn State’s best all-time quarterbacks: Trace McSorley and Sean Clifford. Throughout his time at Penn State, Campbell helped the Nittany Lions win 31 of their 39 games, two New Year’s Six Bowls (2017 Fiesta and 2019 Cotton), and finished no worse than 9-4 (2018).
Campbell’s Big Ten experience and previous work with two of Penn State’s best quarterbacks mean the future is bright in Ann Arbor.
Campbell as a play caller
In 2020, Campbell took the offensive coordinator job at Old Dominion and immediately increased the Monarchs’ production. Campbell served in this role for two seasons (2020-21) before taking an offensive analyst role at the University of Michigan on Jim Harbaugh’s staff.
In 2022, Campbell was a fundamental analyst at Michigan football, assisting the Wolverines to reach the top 6 in total offensive production and scoring offense.
Campbell will take over with JJ McCarthy and Co. this year in the quarterback room. With a loaded offense and National Championship aspirations, Campbell feels like a perfect hire to help McCarthy and the offense reach the next level. Campbell’s experience and proven track record show that he can modernize and elevate the Wolverines’ offense.
