What to make of new recruiting hires by Michigan football

Michigan football recruiting is starting to feel different under Sherrone Moore. When he was hired as the head coach, he talked about being more “aggressive” and we are starting to see what looks like.

Being more aggressive can mean different things. The Wolverines could target different (more elite) recruits. They could also be more proactive with their NIL offerings, but one thing that needed to be addressed was the lack of recruiting resources.

That’s not to say Michigan football doesn’t have some of the best resources in the sport. They do. But if you want to compete with the SEC and programs like Ohio State, you better have the same things they have.

Michigan isn’t quite there in terms of NIL dollars. But the new revenue-sharing model could help the Wolverines, although we thought the same about NIL when it first came out and NIL has hurt Michigan football much more than it has helped.

However, Moore has made some smart moves. He’s expanding the recruiting staff and this week, at least five new members have been hired according to Alejandro Zuniga of The Michigan Insider.

“Four people — Jacob Weber, Jacob Sakk, Preston Sagan, and Jack Turner — all shared on social media Sunday that they have joined U-M from other programs. Later that same day, former Michigan recruiting intern Reid Kuhl announced that he too had earned a promotion to recruiting analyst.”

All of the new hires will work as recruiting analysts. They have varying backgrounds in football but the hires make sense. It’s hard to know exactly what that means in terms of their duties, but more resources for Michigan football recruiting can’t be a bad thing.

Update: Michigan has now hired seven new recruiting analysts according to EJ Holland of The Wolverine.
