There have been some setbacks for Michigan football regarding running back recruiting in the 2025 class. Marquise Davis and Bo Jackson, two of the top targets, committed elsewhere.
Another target Michigan football pushed for, Todd Robinson, committed to Georgia. That’s three four-star running backs off the board for the Wolverines and new running backs coach Tony Alford.
There are still some solid options on the board though, starting with top-100 running back Jordon Davison. Ranked 96th overall in the 2025 class according to the 247 Sports composite rankings, Davison has two crystal ball projections to Ohio State. Yet, there are questions if the Buckeyes will take another running back.
Davison is 6-foot, 225 pounds. He’s the sixth-best running back in the 2025 class according to the 247 Sports composite rankings. He also took an official visit to Michigan football last weekend. According to Sam Webb of The Michigan Insider, the Wolverines “knocked it out of the park.”
The elite back has official visits upcoming to Ohio State and Oregon. We should have a better idea after that if Michigan football has a realistic shot at his commitment. Those three programs, along with Texas, are the only ones to have hosted Davison for multiple visits in this calendar year.
Another RB on the radar for Michigan football
Donovan Johnson, a 6-foot, 205-pound running back from IMG Academy in Florida is another player to watch for Michigan football. The running back ranked No. 232 overall in the 2025 (according to 247 composite rankings) class will take an unofficial visit to Ann Arbor on June 19th.
Johnson has an impressive offer sheet but he doesn’t have an offer yet from Michigan, at least according to his 247 Sports profile. The four-star running back released a top five of USC, Tennessee, Georgia, Florida State, and Ohio State, back in late 2023, but none of those programs are listed as “warm” according to his 247 profile.
The only visit in 2024 so far is the one he has set for Michigan football. So things are pretty wide open. There was an injury during his junior season which is why the interest could be more tepid, but if the Wolverines offer and get him back for an official visit, that will be good sign they like his game and might be able to push toward a commitment.
