Today, the 2024 Michigan football schedule was released, and it features a number of tough opponents for the Wolverines next fall. From new and old Big Ten additions, such as USC and Ohio State, to fierce non-conference teams, such as Texas, next fall will be an uphill fight for the Maize and Blue.

2024 Michigan football schedule will be brutal

The future of Michigan football feels a bit uncertain after the 2023 season. With over 20 players eligible to leave after this season — most of whom are being pinned as notable draft prospects — next year’s roster is bound to look quite different. Additionally, assistants like Mike Hart, Sherrone Moore, and Jesse Minter are being pinned as top head coaching prospects. It’s perhaps worth noting that, per usual, many feel Jim Harbaugh could leave after this season as well.

Who is on the 2024 Big Ten slate for the Maize and Blue?

Regardless of the shape that Michigan football is in come next fall, the Wolverines are going to be playing one of the hardest schedules in college football. Today, more insight was given when the Big Ten officially released its 2024 schedule — for Michigan, it features teams like USC, Texas, Ohio State, and more. Here is what next year’s regular-season slate will look like:

HOME: Michigan State, Minnesota, Northwestern, Oregon, USC
AWAY: Illinois, Indiana, Ohio State, Washington

Looking at the Big Ten schedule from a distance, Michigan football has few “gimme” games — likely only Northwestern, Illinois, and Indiana feel certain right now. Even then, two of those games are on the road.

Ohio State and Washington will be tough tests on the road for Michigan football, especially with the Huskies being on the West Coast. On the other hand, Michigan State is never easy to deal with for the Wolverines, Oregon looks solid right now, and USC has been playing great ball under Lincoln Riley. Another big game for fans to keep an eye on: Texas in Week 2 — this will be a good early measuring stick for Michigan next year.

While the priority for Michigan football and its fans remains the 2023 season — and winning a national title this year — the tests that lie ahead for the Maize and Blue appear to be brutal.
