The 2023 Michigan football season is right around the corner, and the Maize and Blue are expected to be among the top contenders for this season’s national title. Over the past two years, the Wolverines have been a College Football Playoff team, claiming Big Ten titles and more along the way. Now, according to four major sportsbooks, Michigan is poised to make a run at a championship for the first time since 1997.
Michigan football among top national title contenders in 2023
A few months ago, Michigan football fell short against TCU in the Fiesta Bowl (College Football Playoff semifinal). A win would have sent Michigan to its first-ever national title game to face the Georgia Bulldogs. Heading into the 2023 college football season, the Maize and Blue are expected to be a College Football Playoff team for the third year in a row, likely pushing for another Big Ten title and victory over Ohio State in the process. Here is where the top four sportsbooks rank Michigan’s title odds heading into the year.
FanDuel
FanDuel Sportsbook has Michigan football with +1000 odds to win the national title this year. The Wolverines remain behind Georgia (1), Alabama (2), and Ohio State (3) heading into the year, which seems especially surprising given Michigan’s incredibly talented roster and its previous success against the Buckeyes.
Bet MGM
The Bet MGM odds for the 2023 Michigan football season to conclude with a national title are currently set at +900, once again giving the Wolverines the fourth-highest odds nationally this fall.
Caesar’s Sportsbook
Like Bet MGM and FanDuel, Michigan football is the 4th-ranked team on the list for Caesar’s Sportsbook heading into the new year. Michigan has +800 odds to claim the 2023-24 national title.
Points Bet
Michigan football has +800 odds to win this year’s national title, according to Points Bet. As expected, the Wolverines are ranked at No. 4 in the race for this year’s title.
Wolverines looking to stun the nation in 2023-24
After the COVID-19 season in 2020, during which Michigan football finished with a 2-4 record and suffered embarrassing losses to Michigan State and others, the Wolverines defied expectations and turned things around. They achieved a remarkable 12-2 record and claimed the program’s first Big Ten title since the 2004 season. This success marked a significant culture change in Ann Arbor, with the Maize and Blue displaying dominance in their performances.
Since the start of that impressive 2021 season, the Wolverines have maintained an outstanding overall record of 25-3 and a remarkable Big Ten record of 19-1. They have secured back-to-back Big Ten titles and consecutive College Football Playoff appearances. With a roster filled with talent and experience, along with a formidable coaching staff, this could very well be the year for the Wolverines to contend for a national title.
