Following an exciting season for freshman Semaj Morgan, the expectations are much higher in 2024 as he’s among the top returners at the wide receiver position.
Morgan caught 22 passes last season for 204 yards and two touchdowns. He did have the special teams gaffe in the Rose Bowl but still caught four passes for 24 yards. Morgan also scored two rushing touchdowns last season and it’s exciting to think about what’s to come in 2024.
Roman Wilson and Cornelius Johnson are each in the NFL now. Tight end Colston Lovelad will be the No. 1 target this season but after that, it’s wide open. Michigan football has Morgan, Frederick Moore, and Tyler Morris.
I expect them to be in the top three on the depth chart. Morgan has changed his number to zero and Sherrone Moore, Michigan football head coach, said he granted that request after Semaj earned a 4.0 GPA. The head coach also said Morgan has bulked up but has maintained his speed and has been one of the “best” players in practice.
Morgan is one of the Michgan football players who needs to take a second-year leap. He’s got all the tools and last season he caught passes in 10 different games but he needs to start creating more explosive plays. Morgan can play in the slot, or on the outside. Moore also said he was the No. 1 punt returner right now.
Semaj should contribute in all those areas of the game, but he should take a big leap as a wide receiver. Not only will he get more targets but Morgan be a better weapon overall in year two.
