Today, the top priority for Michigan football recruiting, Gatlin Bair, a four-star wide receiver in the 2024 recruiting class, announced his commitment. For weeks, it felt like the Wolverines were clear-cut frontrunners here; however, when push came to shove, Bair’s home state Boise State Broncos jumped in at the last second and grabbed him.

Michigan football recruiting whiffs on top target in 2024 recruiting class

The 2024 recruiting class is looking good so far for Jim Harbaugh and his coaching staff — it currently ranks 4th nationally with a plethora of committed players. Recently, the Wolverines landed some good news, flipping a top 10 prospect in Indiana away from Purdue; however, this was followed by some bad news as the Maize and Blue missed on a major target today.

Four-star wide receiver Gatlin Bair once felt like a sure thing for Michigan football recruiting — following his official visit, all kinds of insider predictions were rolling in for the Wolverines to land this elite recruit. That said, Boise State got a last-second lead earlier this week, and when decision time rolled around this evening, Bair ultimately chose the Broncos.

Gatlin Bair is considered one of the top prospects in the nation right now, and while he won’t be enrolling until 2026 due to a two-year mission, this is still a notable loss for Michigan football recruiting. According to On3 (industry), Bair is a four-star wide receiver, ranking as the No. 39 player in the 2024 recruiting class, the No. 11 wideout in the nation, and the No. 1 player in the state of Idaho.
