Another off the field issue for Michigan football

Michigan football staffer Denard Robinson was arrested for OWI on Monday morning and that’s another bad look for the Wolverines.

A wild offseason took another turn for Michigan football as a second Wolverines staffer — this time former Michigan quarterback Denard Robinson — was arrested for operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated.

This is according to multiple news reports. Robinson was arrested after his vehicle was involved in a single-car crash at 3:05 in the morning.

For Michigan football, it’s another black eye. There have been a ton of scandals involving the program — some legit and some not — over the past few seasons. There was “burger gate” and “sign gate” but this is the second time in a month (approximately) that a member of the staff has been arrested for OWI.

Another off-the-field incident

Greg Scruggs, the first defensive line coach hired by Michigan football head coach Sherrone Moore, had to leave his position after getting arrested for the same thing.

You’d think that would have served as a warning to any staffer to keep their nose clean. That’s what makes this even more difficult to understand.

We should see what all the facts have to say, but after the facts came out about Scruggs, he resigned the same day. I hope that doesn’t happen for Denard Robinson, a true Michigan football legend but it seems hard to avoid at this point.

Robinson was a bright spot during the Brady Hoke and Rich Rod eras. He gave fans some incredible moments and it was great to have him on the Michigan football staff again. Frankly, he seemed like a real asset.

Now, he could be out of a job. Sherrone Moore also looks like a head coach — true or not — who doesn’t have control of his staff. That’s not fair, but that will be the narrative.

That’s what makes this even more disappointing. Also, call a cab or an UBER. Someone could have gotten hurt and thankfully they didn’t. This has got to stop.
