Today, Michigan football recruiting received some bad news regarding its impressive 2024 recruiting class. According to new insider predictions, the Wolverines are now expected to lose commitments from Jerod Smith and Jacob Smith, both of whom are elite four-star defenders and have been pivotal in bolstering Michigan’s class thus far.

Michigan football recruiting projected to lose pair of elite four-star commits

Jerod Smith and Jacob Smith were both monumental additions to the Wolverines’ 2024 recruiting class. In fact, when Jerod Smith first committed, the current Michigan football recruiting class surged to No. 1 in the composite rankings.

However, today, new insider predictions by Nick Roush of On3 suggest that this pair of elite four-star defenders will flip from Michigan football to the Kentucky Wildcats. Michigan recently lost four-star edge rusher Elias Rudolph to the Miami Hurricanes, and another blow to the 2024 class would be far from ideal, to say the least.

Should Michigan football recruiting indeed lose this four-star duo, the Wolverines’ class would find itself dropping once again. This time, Michigan’s class would plummet to 9th in the composite rankings.

As per industry recruiting rankings, Jacob Smith is a four-star edge rusher, positioned at No. 270 among players in America and No. 3 in the state of Kentucky. Additionally, Jerod Smith is a four-star defensive lineman, ranked as the No. 250 recruit in the nation and the No. 2 player in the state of Kentucky.
