Michigan football recruiting is hard at work in the 2025 recruiting class, and while things are starting to turn south for the Wolverines with the 2024 class, some good news came Jim Harbaugh’s way with a major four-star quarterback today. 2025 quarterback prospect Ryan Montgomery, who was just in Ann Arbor for a visit at the end of July, is one of the most sought-after quarterbacks in the nation and currently has the Maize and Blue among his top contenders.

When it comes to the 2025 recruiting class, Michigan football is locked in on landing five-star Byrce Underwood, the No. 1 recruit in the nation and a native of Belleville High School, right in Jim Harbaugh’s backyard. That said, the Wolverines are also entertaining a number of other elite quarterback prospects just in case Underwood opts to commit elsewhere — among Michigan’s top choices is four-star quarterback Ryan Montgomery.

“Michigan is a place I have visited countless times, so every time I am on campus, I feel very comfortable,” Montgomery said of the Wolverines, per Chad Simmons of On3 (Free). “It is close in proximity, so that is nice, and I have a great relationship with Coach Kirk Campbell. He is super-relatable, he is easy to talk to, and I like him a lot. Then you have Coach Jim Harbaugh. He played at Michigan, he coached in the NFL, and he has a lot of great experience.”

Per the Recruiting Prediction Machine, Montgomery’s top two schools right now are Michigan football and the Ohio State Buckeyes, though these two are within 2% of one another. An Ohio native, Montgomery is rated as a four-star quarterback and ranked as the No. 206 player in the nation, the No. 16 quarterback in the 2025 recruiting class, and is the No. 9 player in the state of Ohio.
