CU football head coach Deion Sanders comes out of the locker room for the Rocky Mountain Showdown on Sept. 16, 2023 at Folsom Field in Boulder, Colo.

If you are a fan of the Wolverines and have been on Twitter over the past few days, you would think that the Maize and Blue were using steroids and stealing playbooks. Right now, the Michigan football sign-stealing allegations are taking the college football news cycle by storm, and have cast Jim Harbaugh and his coaching staff in a very negative light; that said, there is still a lot of information that is off the table, and the investigation is yet to start. This afternoon, it seemed as if Colorado coach and football legend Deion Sanders seemed to downplay the allegations, or at least added some context to what the Wolverines are being accused of.

Deion Sanders is already turning around the Colorado football program — just one year into his tenure, the Buffaloes are playing much better ball than they were last fall when they went 1-11. This afternoon, Sanders talked about the Michigan football sign-stealing allegations, seemingly downplaying what the Wolverines are being accused of doing.

“I mean, everyone’s trying to get an edge,” Deion Sanders said this afternoon. “Everyone’s trying to get whatever edge they can. You can have someone’s whole game plan — they could mail it to you — you’ve still got to stop it.

“In football, it’s not as pronounced as baseball,” Sanders continued. “If I know a curveball is coming, I got you. With football, I don’t give a darn. If you know a sweep is coming, you’ve still got to stop it — physically. It’s a physical game. You’ve got to stop it. So, that’s a little tough. I don’t buy into a lot of that stuff that someone’s stealing this, stealing that. I don’t buy a lot of that. You’ve still got to play the game.”

While the media is on fire right now, there is still a chance that Jim Harbaugh and Michigan football get off pretty easy here. On the other hand, depending on how much pressure the NCAA and Big Ten are facing from angry rival fans and more, this could drag on for years — only time will tell.
