It has been a few years since we last saw ex-Michigan football quarterback Joe Milton throw on the Maize and Blue; however, his time with Jim Harbaugh and the Wolverines is still impacting his performance today. During Senior Bowl practices, the former Wolverine QB had a chance to explain how his playing days in Ann Arbor helped prep him for NFL Draft events like the Senior Bowl and more.
Ex-Michigan football quarterback Joe Milton praises Wolverines
During his nine years as head coach of the Michigan football program, Jim Harbaugh had a lot of NFL coaches around Ann Arbor. Being a former NFL coach himself, and the brother of one of the league’s top coaches (John Harbaugh), it made sense that Harbaugh kept his program in the spotlight with coaches and scouts alike.
Joe Milton was with Michigan football from 2018-2020 and Tennessee from 2021-2023, and while he was known more for his days with the Vols than he was with the Wolverines, he made sure to note that Michigan has him prepped for NFL Draft events like the Senior Bowl.
“I’ve been at Michigan before,” Joe Milton told On3’s Andy Staples. “There were a ton of NFL coaches (there). Just got to take every day how you would in life; approach it the same way. They’re not trying to bash you in the ground but they see you good you want to take coaching.”
Time at Michigan with Jim Harbaugh has Milton ready for NFL Draft prep
He also noted some of the main similarities between his coaching at Michigan and what he has seen from the Senior Bowl so far.
“Walk-throughs, one-on-ones, seven on seven. Just the whole nine (yards),” he said. “Calling the plays, making sure the huddle is addressed correctly, and getting the guys going.”
While the ex-Michigan football quarterback did not quite live up to expectations during his days with the Wolverines, even being replaced by former starting QB Cade McNamara back in 2020, Joe Milton is still benefitting from his three years under Jim Harbaugh in Ann Arbor. In April, the 23-year-old signal caller will get to try his hand at the NFL Draft, where he could be one of two former Michigan quarterbacks off the board — the other being JJ McCarthy.
