JJ McCarthy Reveals Unique Relationship With Coach Harbaugh

HOUSTON — JJ McCarthy is 26-1 as the starting quarterback for Michigan football, earning three Big Ten title rings, CFP berths, a Rose Bowl victory, and more over the past few years. This weekend, ahead of Monday’s national title bout between the No. 1 Wolverines (14-0, Big Ten Champs) and the No. 2 Washington Huskies (14-0, PAC-12 Champs), McCarthy gave insight into his unique and special bond with Michigan Head Coach Jim Harbaugh.

Jim Harbaugh is the first Michigan football coach to ever win three straight outsight Big Ten Championships, and after taking over a 5-7 program back in late 2014, Harbaugh has the Wolverines back at the top of the sport. In fact, on Monday, Michigan will play in its first-ever National Championship Game as the Wolverines look to snap a nearly three-decade-long national title drought.

Saturday, JJ McCarthy had a chance to break down his relationship with Coach Harbaugh — it’s unique, and truly unlike any other QB-coach bond seen around the country.

“You know, it’s a mixture of father/son, teammate to teammate,” JJ McCarthy said. “Just a great friend to great friend. All of the above. (Jim Harbaugh) provides every aspect of a great leader that I want to follow and that relationship is a big part of it.”

With the NFL calling both McCarthy and Harbaugh’s names for the 2024 season, there is a notable chance that Monday will be the final time that we see this duo in the Maize and Blue. After restoring the Michigan football program back to its past greatness, Jim Harbaugh and his hand-picked elite quarterback, JJ McCarthy, could win it all on Monday and ride into the sunset — regardless of where their respective futures take them.
